Another look at Rens Horn’s 13 portraits

Photographer Rens Horn shared several of his distinct mixed media-style images with Jasper Heikens for the original Lester Butler Tribute Site.

In addition to iconic images of Butler, Horn also provided portraits of guitarist Alex Schultz and Lester’s friend Robert Atkinson. In fact, Schultz used a version of the Horn portrait for the back cover of his 2004 album “Think About It.”

In 2011, Horn told NoFightin.com about how he shot Butler during his 1997 tour through The Netherlands. He took the “tattoo” portrait during the day on Sept. 10, 1997, in Rotterdam. Then he shot 13 that evening at the band’s show at Nighttown in Rotterdam.
