Lyrics: “She’s Dangerous” at Pinkpop 1993

Here’s a different take on the story “’bout a girl I know and my best friend.”

The live version of “She’s Dangerous” is an insistent rocker, much more aggressive than the stop-time swagger of the definitive “King King” version. In concert, Lester Butler plays with the lyrics, an ever-shifting narrative of who is catching who — and who is getting hit with a baseball bat.

This Pinkpop 1993 version is such an example, although there are a couple of lines that we can’t make heads or tails of — then again, Butler probably couldn’t, either.

Hey baby!

I got to tell you when I get a chance
Girl I know and my best friend
He loved a woman and put her down now
For talkin’ trash all over town yeah

My baby’s dangerous
I ain’t lyin’ she’s fine and dangerous
Man she’s so fine and young
Said baby here I come

And then the other night man knocking on my door
Was the same chick ’bout half past 4
Now had me a shock walking through the door
Was the same little girl she was lying in my bed …

She’s dangerous
I ain’t lyin’ she’s fine and dangerous
So fine and young now
Said baby here I come

Here I come baby!

(harp solo)

Hey listen baby I’m gonna change my oil
Got to take you in on a newer model
Now the same chick tried to put me on the run
I gave her a little money, we had a little fun

My baby’s dangerous
I aint lyin’ she’s fine and dangerous
Man she’s 36-24-26
Got a big ol’ bag of tricks

(guitar solo)

Now the same friend told you ’bout before
Was the next morning knockin’ down my door
He heard the voice now from the other room
I didn’t see nothin’, man he clocked me with a baseball bat

Yeah yeah
I ain’t lyin’ the girl’s fine and dangerous
Man she’s so fine and young
Say baby here I come
