Canned Heat have Red Devils along for the ride, 1992

There have been almost 50 confirmed members of Canned Heat since the band was founded in 1965 by record collectors Alan Wilson and Bob Hite.

The band — celebrating its 60th year in 2025 — has included musicians from the greater Red Devils/13 family, including Hollywood Fats, Smokey Hormel, Mark “Pocket” Goldberg, Gene Taylor, Junior Watson, Paul Bryant, Rick Reed and, on at least one memorable occasion, Canned Heat all-star Larry “The Mole” Taylor.

On leap year weekend 1992, the lineup of Taylor, Adolfo “Fito” de la Parra, Harvey “The Snake” Mandel and James “T” Thornbury was as close to classic Heat as you could get.

It was this version of Canned Heat that “returned” to Raji’s nightclub in Hollywood on Friday, Feb. 28, and Saturday, Feb. 29, 1992, with The Red Devils on the bill on Night 2. Check out the flier:

Road warrior Fito de la Parra, the last from the classic 1960s lineup, takes the band’s eternal boogie ethos seriously: The current version of Canned Heat have California dates lined up through February 2025, with summer gigs around the U.S. being added now.
