Thanks to photographer David Horwitz in Tucson, we have these great images of 13 from the Rhythm Room in Phoenix from early 1998 (we are thinking this was April 4, 1998).
These photos are but some of the images that Horwitz shot while documenting the blues scene under the imprint David Horwitz Blues Images. According to his biography on bobcorritore.com, Horwitz first began photographing musicians in California in 1971 before moving to Tucson, Arizona, in 1982. He received the prestigious “Keeping the Blues Alive” Award from the Blues Foundation in 1999, and was inducted into the Arizona Blues Hall of Fame in 2011.
Horwitz died in July 2015.
These photos of Lester Butler, Alex Schultz, Eddie Clark and Mike Hightower are for sale, and others, were made available to NoFightin.com in 2012. Very fine pics, thank you. I particularly like the one where Alex is watching Lester intently as if they’re sharing a deep moment…That’s how it looks to me.
I just ordered a copy of the ’13’ CD; I haven’t heard it since the year it was issued and I can’t wait any longer! (Funds have been very low for several years but times change…). I ‘ll be buying ‘King King’ next.
Best wishes to all.
